Central forum question

Out of curiosity...  how many of the people on here are also on other steampunk forums online??  I'd like to branch out and find more people who would be interested in events, in my area - but also would like to keep an eye out for events all over and maybe form some carpooling and roomsplitting relationships for steampunk travel opportunities...

I was considering making a separate group of my own (I live in the wrist of Michigan, so we're closer to Chicago & it's events than Detroit), but have been combing teh interwebz looking at all the different forums where people are posting already.
Steampunk Michigan Facebook Group

And, of course, this one.

Any others out there I should be watching?

I have a decent sized crew of my own (probably ~10-15 people when it's all said and done) representing my little wrist area of Michigan - Benton Harbor / St. Joseph area - but figured I'd shout out on here to see how many other lurkers were around the bermuda triangle between South Bend / Kalamazoo / Grand Rapids area...

Well, I'll be in the GR area come autumn, but for now I'm up in the tip of the pinky. ^..^ That said, I guess I mostly haunt other LJ communities, and the occasional FB group. There's about five really active (by which I mean, make costumes, go to events, write stories, all without prompting from others) members of our little "crew," with an additional five that kinda come and go, depending on their moods, and how much pushing and shoving happens on my part. Lol. It'd be great if this comm was busier... ^_____^

Well, I did just discover that www.thesteampunkempire.com has a "group" area (which links into Facebook for joining) where you can join whatever groups you like to watch and comment in... There is a "West Michigan Steampunk" group - from which it sounds like most people are more from the Grand Rapids area, though two immediately expressed interest in meeting -wherever-.... So if/when some sort of soiree is going down, if I'm flagged on here to get my attention, I could go and tug some chains over there in the several area groups (West Michigan, Michiana, Chicago and Detroit) to see what kind of interest there be... XD

I belong to several groups over on Steam Punk Empire and run one called The Coalition of West Michigan Steampunks from here in the Grand Rapids area. I have 33 members, of course I don't turn anyone away so I have a few from Central MI and well and the east side.

A well met to you my dear! Oh yes, Benton Harbor.... I believe I inquired as to the time of the drive to your area from Grand Rapids. Certainly you are closer than Ann Arbor and My friend Lady Kerianna and I went to the Steampunk Salon there on the 17th of this month.

Please keep me in your thoughts and let me know if you are having a get-together in your area. I am about to begin work on my 2nd outfit. Ann Arbor was my first time attending anything and we had such a lovely time.

Do the Ann Arbor folks use a different forum for arranging their get-togethers? I wouldn't be adverse to a trip in that direction to visit them, either. :) I wish we had another steam-con or at least some sort of "Steampunk in the Park" event (like the one they do in Georgia annually now) in the southwest Michigan area... I was wondering what the turnout would be if I were to advertise some sort of a steampunk afternoon picnic soiree to be hosted at a park. There's a lovely park in St. Joe near the river that is easy access from the north off 196, and from the east/west (Chicago/Detroit) off I-94........ It would be lovely photos.... :) It would be absolutely fabulous to get a turnout like it looked like Georgia got last year (from the pictures I saw hosted all over the net)...

I first saw the announcement on Steampunk Empire, I know they have a presence there, even their own page I think.
They are also on FaceBook. Search Sunday Steampunk Salon. http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=150514825002897

St Joe being St Joseph? The town that smells like mint about 45 minutes out of Lansing? Lovely area.

Here in Grand Rapids we also have some lovely parks, Richmond Park for one and Ah-Na-Ba-Wen right by the Museum. In Canonsburg north of GR there is a beautiful park area that has an enclosed building in the event of bad weather that has a kitchen. I've been to weddings and get-togethers there as well.
But one would have to pay a small fee to use that one as the space must be rented. Still, to have a steampunk cookout would be quite delightful too.

Its my hope to have our own group have a quarterly meet up the way the ann Arbor folks do and support our own area. One can hardly make the West and Southwest side of the state as Steam active as the mid and east part if we hold our meet and greets away from the west and southwest area.

Georgia is amazing.

Just understand that it takes time to build to a number like that. First you have to get known.

What about the Battle Creek/Kalamazoo area? Are there many groups around there?

Ah, that bites. I don't know any other people interested in steampunk. I can't wait for the World Steam Expo.
